Welcome, Department of Fisheries Maharashtra State

The fisheries sector contributes to the socio-economic developments of the state. The fisheries sector is one of the major sources of livelihood for the economically backward population. We aim to support economically backward populations and improve the fishery sector by adopting modern sustainable techniques in various fields of fisheries. We generate employment for economically backward, cheap & nutritious food for the society and the foreign exchange for the nation. Considering various resources, trends, opportunities, weaknesses, and threats department has formed strategies for the future. The strategies of the Department are as follows.

Sea Fishing Villages : 526
Total Number of Bays : 54
Total Semi-Saline Area: 80000 hectares
Marine Fisheries Landing Centers: 173

Groundwater Production 2022-23 - : 143544 May. tons
Total Marine Fishermen Population: 364899
